so you mean to tell me that / people in your country eat when they're sad?

Skeptical 3rd World Kid meme: so you mean to tell me that / people in your country eat when they're sad?

You pay £1.80 for a bottle of water, then £35 a month for a gym where you sweat the water back out. So you're telling me that's the plan. It is, somehow, the plan. The fridge is full. You open it, stare for a full minute, close it, and announce there's nothing to eat. Then you pay £14 for a burger that arrives cold, by bicycle, forty minutes later. You have four streaming subscriptions. You spend the evening scrolling all four, then rewatch the sitcom you've seen eleven times. You are paying for choice. You are choosing not to. Your dog has a raincoat, a birthday cake and a behaviourist at £60 an hour, who explains that he barks at the robot hoover because you bought a robot hoover. Said out loud, none of this survives. **Why it caught on:** the photo of a young boy giving the camera a long, doubtful sideways look has no well documented source, and the joke was always on the rest of us. He is the reasonable one, and most of our routines don't survive his face.
